Biography
Rafia I. Chaudhry, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist. She earned her medical degree from The Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan; completed residency training in internal medicine at The University of Illinois, College of Medicine at Peoria/OSF St Francis Hospital; and completed fellowship training in nephrology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
At Virginia Nephrology Group, Dr. Chaudhry provides comprehensive care for patients with kidney disease, with a strong focus on hypertension and renal vasculitis. She has published articles on the detection of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease, lipid management in patients with chronic kidney disease, ANCA associated vasculitis, and strategies to prevent peritonitis after procedures.
Dr. Chaudhry’s care philosophy is grounded in partnership and empowerment: “My goal is to create meaningful partnerships with patients so they feel informed, supported, and actively involved in their care. By simplifying care plans and helping patients clearly understand their health situation, I hope to improve treatment success and guide them more confidently through the challenges of chronic kidney disease and other renal disorders.”
She is fluent in Urdu. She was awarded Nephrology Attending of the Year at Albany Medical College in 2018 and was a Champion Program Honoree at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, from 2017-2018. Outside of medicine, she prioritizes activities that support her well-being, including exercise, mindfulness, and spending time outdoors. Dr. Chaudhry is from Lahore, Pakistan.
